How To Link Your LIC Policy With Aadhaar Card, PAN Card Online

LIC policyholders have to link their Aadhaar and PAN to the policies as per a government directive, says the life insurer.

As per a government directive, you have to link your Aadhaar and PAN to your LIC (Life Insurance Corporation) policies, says India's biggest life insurer on its website. LIC has come up with a facility which enables policyholders to link Aadhaar with their policies online. Insurance regulator IRDAI (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India) had earlier said linkage of Aadhaar number with insurance policies is mandatory and asked insurers to comply with the statutory norms. "The Authority clarifies that, linkage of Aadhaar number to insurance policies is mandatory under the Prevention of Money Laundering (Maintenance of Records) Second Amendment Rules, 2017," IRDAI said. 

Separately, LIC has said that it has not launched any facility enabling linking of Aadhaar with its policies through an SMS-based service. "Our attention is drawn to some messages circulated in social media with our Emblem and logo asking policyholders to link their Aadhaar number by sending SMS to designated number...no such message has been sent by LIC. Also no facility to link Aadhaar number to policies is available through SMS in LIC," the state-run life insurer said on microblogging site Twitter. 

"As and when LIC will enable linking of Aadhaar number with policies through SMS, our website will be duly updated of this option," LIC added.
 

LIC has on its website - licindia.in - listed steps to link policies with Aadhaar and PAN online: 

1) Keep your Aadhaar Card and PAN card handy along with the list of policies.

2) Log in to LIC's website.  The link for linking Aadhaar and PAN with LIC policies is displayed prominently on LIC's homepage. 

3) Click on the link and LIC gives you a to-do checklist. Read the instructions. 

4) Mobile Number as registered with UIDAI has to be entered. OTP will be sent to the number provided.

5) In case your mobile number is not updated in Aadhaar, kindly contact nearby LIC Branch Office for Aadhaar linking, says LIC.

6) After reading the checklist, click on the Proceed button at the bottom of the page. 

After submitting the details in the form, a message will be shown on the success of the registration for linkage.

After verification with UIDAI or Unique Identification Authority of India, which issues Aadhaar card, a SMS/mail confirmation will be sent to you, says LIC. The verification may take few days, the insurer adds.

Billionaire Mukesh Ambani Friday hit back at Bharti's Sunil Mittal for blaming his telecom venture Jio for the industry's losses, saying businesses must stop looking at regulators and governments to guarantee their profits.

Calling Mittal a "friend", he said profits and losses are risks businesses take and it is more important to find out if the country and the consumers gained after Jio launch.

Addressing the HT Leadership Summit here, he said that after the entry of Jio, India has become the world's No.1 mobile broadband market, consuming more data than users in the US and China.

"For all of us in the industry, I think profits and losses are risks that we take. I don't think we can rely on governments and regulators to guarantee our profits or losses," Ambani maintained.

This was in response to a query on Mittal's reported comments -- who runs India's biggest telecom firm Bharti Airtel -- that all telecom companies had put together written down $40-50 billion of investments due to Jio's entry.

"To me, what is most important is did we move the country forward and does the consumer gain," Ambani said.

"The question... you should be thinking about is even if there are profits and losses, who gains and who loses. And as long as the consumer gains and the country moves forward, it is worth taking those losses... Some of us are big boys, we can afford that," he added.

A little over a year ago, Ambani, Chairman and MD of Reliance Industries, launched Jio, a new fourth-generation wireless service that disrupted the telecom industry by offering free calls and cheap data on mobile phones.

Older players such as Airtel and Vodafone were forced to cut tariff, but still continue to charge for voice calls and text messages, which are free on Jio. This together with dirt cheap data has helped it attract 138 million users.

According to Ambani, Jio is ahead of schedule on turning profitable.

"Jio results are declared every quarter now. You can see the trend. You watch the next few quarters. You will learn in January and you will learn in March," he replied to a question when will the telecom venture break even.

Not elaborating, he said, "I don't want to predict, but I think we are ahead of our schedule in terms of the returns that we are generating."

In the July-September quarter, Jio had reported a pre-tax profit of Rs 261 crore, its first ever operating profit, on standalone revenue of about Rs 6,147 crore. But it had a net loss of Rs 270.5 crore for the three months to September.

Asked if competition motivates him, Ambani said, "Our DNA is that we are very focussed. We always believe in the principle of saying that if you focus on the goal, you will overcome all obstacles. If you focus on the obstacles, you will never achieve your goal."

"At Reliance, we want to be the best in the world," he asserted. "I am sorry if it appears competitive."

The RIL chairman predicted that India will be ahead of the US in terms of data infrastructure by 2019. "As we move forward, we think of more difficult issues that create value. Agriculture is difficult, education is important, and healthcare is most difficult and we will think about what we can do in each one of these areas," he added.

He also said money never meant much to him and he has never carried money since childhood, adding that "I have somebody around who pays for me".

Ambani, India's richest man, went on to say India was ranked 150th in the world for mobile broadband adoption, but "now, it is number 1, after the launch of Jio".

"Today, Indians consume more mobile broadband data than users in the USA and China," he said. "If Data is Destiny, New India is well and truly ready for its new Tryst with Destiny."

India, Ambani suggested, can use digital technology to leapfrog in all sectors of the economy -- be it financial services, commerce, manufacturing, agriculture, education and healthcare.

"As Internet becomes accessible to all Indians, I believe we will be among the first to graduate to the Internet of Everything," he quipped.

While speaking at the inaugural session of the HTLS, the Prime Minister said, “Linking Aadhaar with mobile and Jan Dhan accounts have evolved such a system which was not even thought of till some years ago — a system which is irreversible,” Modi said. “Earlier, pension money was distributed in crores of fake accounts. All that has been addressed with the help of Aadhaar in the last three years,” he said.

“The day the country will have a technical and digital address for all monetary transactions, organised corruption will be checked to a great extent,” he said. Black money coming into the banking system had also brought along with it massive data, a “treasure trove” that would enable the government take action against wrong-doers, he said, adding that ill-gotten wealth earlier funding a parallel economy was now a part of the formal economy.

Recently, Union Housing Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had reportedly said that property transactions would be linked to Aadhaar to eliminate black money from the real estate sector and help in addressing the issue of benami property.

Polluted air was responsible for about 6.5 million deaths worldwide in 2015. Particulate matter is considered to be one of the most toxic forms of air pollution, researchers said. Two major compounds found in airborne particulate are polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and hexavalent chromium. Both types of compounds include carcinogens as well as chronic non-cancer health risks, such as cardiovascular and respiratory distress. The researchers from the University of Southern California (USC) in the US found that the maximum Excess Lifetime Cancer Risk for the Red Line was 10 times higher than the acceptable threshold of one-in-a-million, set by government and health organisations like the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

This was the result of high levels of airborne hexavalent chromium measured within the train cars, likely due to a buildup of dust resulting from friction on the steel tracks, as well as the lack of ventilation on the underground line.

The study was published in the journal Aerosol and Air Quality Research, the reasearchers collected air samples using battery-operated devices with particle sensors. On raods, measurements were taken inside a zero-emissions test vehicle, whereas for railways, measurements were taken both on train platforms and inside cars, with the assumption that commuters spend about 25 percent of their time on the plaform and 75 percent on the train.

Samples were collected on either Teflon or quartz microfiber filters and analysed to determine concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and transition metals.By using cancer potency factors obtained from the EPA and California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), cancer and non-cancerous health risks were calculated on the basis of the lifetime exposure commuting one hour a day, five days a week, for 50 weeks a year, and assuming 30 years of employement.
